Top Ten Musical Highlights
1. First Public Solo Performance - July 2005 at Buffalo Wild Wings in Niles, Ohio
2. Opening Act for Spin Doctors (or was it for The River Saints) - In Harms Way was first of three acts at Mahoning Valley Rib Burn-Off.
3. First Time Someone Sang One of My Songs - At the Riverfest in Welshfield, Ohio a crowd was singing “Too many people to party” along with the band and 240 Rue Bourbon became the band signature song.
4. Hosting Open Mic Night—I have been blessed and honored to host some of the area’s finest present, and future, entertainers at a long running Open Microphone Night at local clubs in the Warren area. While every night is fun and exciting to me, I really enjoy when new entertainers get to share their performances on the stage or when 2 or 3 people meet on stage for the first time and make beautiful music together. The night is always different and fun!
5. Playing for a Friends’ Special Day—In December 2009 I had the honor and privilege to entertain at two friends’ wedding reception. For three plus hours, family and friends shared the joy of the newlyweds by singing. laughing and toasting the new couple. It was a blast to be part of their day!!!!
6. Singing on vacation - Some close friends rent a houseboat or large home a couple of times a year to get away from it all. They have always supported and encouraged me to break their vacation calm and play my guitar, dobro or mandolin for them. I would have to go to the ends of the earth to find a more beautiful audience to play for. I love them all!!
7. Playing on Royal Street in New Orleans - We rented a guitar from a street performer and played a couple of In Harms Way songs to a tourist crowd that actually stopped, applauded and tipped. It was a blast to play out, even if only for a few minutes, a fantasy of a street performer!!
8. Houma (Louisiana) Courier Newspaper Article—My old band mate, Harm Andrews, called and told me the Houma newspaper wanted to do a short piece about a song we co-wrote together 4 years earlier called Houma Girl, A Cajun Ditty. Somehow Ms. McKnight, being a superior wordsmith, could make an interesting story out of anything. She wrote an article about the song and the mp3 was made available on the Houma Courier website.
9. Singing my original songs to a receptive crowd - Few moments of accomplishment can match a warm reception of one of my original songs when playing out live. If you are a songwriter, you know what I mean.
10. Playing my Next Gig - Enough said. I’m livin’ the dream!!!!
